APT Transmitter Changes on NOAA-15 and NOAA-17

Date/Time of Initial Impact: October 12, 2010, Time 1500 UTC

The NOAA/NESDIS Office of Satellite Operations has announced the following:
The APT services on NOAA-15 and NOAA-17 will modified for the morning mission. Performance of the NOAA-17 AVHRR Scan Motor is causing bar-coding in the imagery once again. Increases in the scan motor current has caused the scan lines to be out of synchronization. This in effect produces no good images and will continue until the current returns to nominal. Therefore, NOAA will swap the APT beacon frequencies on NOAA-17 and NOAA-15. The new APT transmitter configuration for the AM spacecrafts will be:

NOAA-15 – APT VTX 137.62 MHz
NOAA-17 – APT VTX 137.5 MHz

The swapping of these beacon frequencies will avoid any further interference from the now non-operation NOAA-9.
