Degradation of NOAA-17’s AVHRR data continues. NOAA reports that the AVHRR scan motor current continues to spike, which has impacted the data. Product produced from the AVHRR such as APT and HRPT have been directly affected and continue to deteriorate. Recovery of the AVHRR is uncertain at this time and is possible that the scan motor could fail as a consequence. Should this happen all APT and HRPT products will stop being produced on NOAA-17. Sync deltas continue to increase and motor currents continue to rise. Should NOAA-17’s AVHRR fail then NOAA-15 will assume the primary AM spacecraft orbit.
