NOAA-15 will transition to a backup attitude control mode (reduced gyro mode) that will estimate the yaw axis information. The attitude control mode change will occur during the pass at 23:44 UTC.
In this mode the attitude pointing accuracy is diminished and there is expected to be an impact to instrument data. Since NOAA-15 entered YGC mode March 08 at 01:44 UTC engineers have been evaluating the health of the attitude control system. In order to preserve the gyros and the mission it will be necessary to operate in this mode.
